Summary

Milk composition is highly related to nutritional supplies; therefore, metabolic profile can be an appropriate tool for evaluating the nutritional and disease status of dairy goats. Changes in the composition of milk and blood were studied from April to October, the months of lactation in seven time intervals in ten dairy goats. The results have shown that the highest concentrations of total plasma protein, serum albumin and plasma glucose were at the beginning of lactation. The urea concentration fluctuated significantly and when the does transferred to full-time pasture, the level of this metabolite showed a highly significant temporary increase in blood and milk. Milk total protein decreased at the onset of lactation then increased gradually as lactation progressed while lactose increased at the beginning and then decreased during lactation. Citric acid content in milk increased gradually during lactation and reached a maximum level during grazing while ketone bodies in blood and milk were found at different concentrations during lactation. We concluded that stage of lactation and season of the year were important factors influencing variations of blood metabolites and milk composition in dairy goats.
