Summary

Sheep farming is becoming confined in order to fully exploit cheese production. Infrastructures are often lacking, especially the electric network. This means it is necessary to develop milking installations with characteristics capable of greatly reducing the air flow rate entering milking installations in order to lower power requirements and energy consumption.

With reference to Sardinia, where around 3,500 milking installations for sheep exist, the adoption of an automatic shut-off valve in the claw allows for savings of around 0.9 billion Lira per year. If a variable speed vacuum pump is installed, an estimated saving of 1.46 billion Lira per year can be obtained. The two values can only partially be measured.
