Summary

In nine field experiments with perennial ryegrass in the official cultivar testing programme in eastern and western parts of central Sweden, tests were made of whether a late autumn cut, taken as late as possible before cessation of growth, could reduce the damage caused by snow mould and improve winter survival. Because of extremely mild winters with low occurrence of snow mould fungi, the autumn cut significantly reduced the following spring yield by about 25%, in both second and third year leys.
