The citrus agribusiness system is represented by entities involved in the transformation process from the agricultural suppliers to the final consumers, which includes agricultural production, industrial processing, the beverage industry and concentrated frozen orange juice distribution. The main orange-buying process attributes contemplated in the contracts are price, sales amount, fruity variety proportion limitations and, finally, the delivery period.

This article seeks to analyze the relationship between the citrus industry and orange growers. To this end the article describes the characteristics of the standard contracts utilized by growers and the processing industries and also the standard contracts utilized by fruit purchasing agents for the in-natura market. The article seeks to relate characteristics of the producers to some forms of relationship between these parties and also to understand whether the grower profile influences perception on the attributes of the existing contracts. The text makes use of Transaction Cost Economics (TCE) for its theoretical framework.
