The article presents a characterization of the wheat agro-industry system in Brazil. Departing from a methodology developed for mapping and quantifying agro-industry systems, the “design” of the system is presented, with the main sectors identified and quantified (revenue of the sectors based on wheat chain sales in Brazil in 2002). The system’s main coordination problems are identified, and a list is provided of collective actions that should be implemented aimed at minimizing the existing problems. A sequence of steps is proposed to establish organizations that can integrate the different sectors in the agro-industry system.
