Detailed quality standards in agri-food chains (Gruber et al., 2003) permit performance measurement to be directly related to the requirements established by those standards. In previous research, the authors suggested a methodology to measure the value of supply chain material and financial flows (Norina and Bailey, 2003). This paper evaluates this methodology using data provided by Russian companies involved in several grain transactions. Performance measure values were calculated that identified the supply chain wave effect initiated by the low performance of other chain members. The wave chain effect takes place when the low performance of one company in the chain causes a decrease in the balance of value for other supply chain members. Suggestions are made for potential applications of the proposed methodology to different agri-food firms.
