This paper examines the structure, conduct and performance in the international chain of Jepara-made furniture. Findings on structure include the identification of three types of supply chains, advantages of subcontracting production and obstacles to further forward integration. Findings on conduct include the identification of contract relationships exhibiting relatively high versus low commitment and degrees of dependence asymmetry between supply chain members. Finally, examination of performance led to the conclusion that although all supply chain groups operated quite efficiently, equity levels within the different supply chain types were low.
