Brand names are important in the global food system. This research examines the importance of food, beverage, and tobacco brands that are among the top 100 leading brands in terms of brand equity. Coca-Cola has the largest brand equity of any brand in the world. Among the 100 leading brands globally, 20 are food and beverage and collectively represent about one-fifth of the total brand equity of the top 100 brands. However, only 8 of these 20 brands account for 82% of the total brand equity for the category.
