Summary

The somatic cell counts of ewe’s and goat’s milk produced in two regions of Greece, Epirus and Peloponnese, during the lactation period was studied. An increase in the month’s average of the somatic cell counts/ml was found ranging from 9 × 10⁵ up to 1.7 × 10⁶, average 1.24 × 10⁶, and from 9.9 × 10⁵ up to 2.6 × 10⁶, average 1.5 × 10⁶, respectively. About 59% of ewe’s and 74% goat’s milk delivered to the dairies, showed more than 1 × 10⁶ SCC/ml. Ewe’s and goat’s milk produced in Peloponnese showed higher values of SCC/ml.
