Summary

A total of 1892 halves from 160 Murciano-Granadina goats corresponding to four flocks were studied during a lactation period. Relationships between somatic cell counts (SCC) and subclinical mastitis, age, lactation period and management factors were studied. Mean SCC figures ranged from 647,000 sc/ml (45th day of lactation) to 1,325,000 sc/ml (225th day of lactation). Results show that all these factors are important in considering the SCC scores. Herd management is one of the most important factors affecting somatic cell counts. Keywords: goat, somatic cell, intramamrnary infection, lactation period, age, flock
