Summary

An experimental infection of 29 ewes with Mycoplasma agalactiÅ was drawn in order to study the induced mammary infection and inflammation (somatic cell counts or SCC) and to test the resistence to new infections during a second lactation. During the first lactation, acute agalactia is characterized by mycoplasma excretion in milk and by high SCC which return to normal values whereas the excretion continues. At the following lambing, no clinical signs are observed and SCC are normal whereas some ewes excrete Mycoplasma agalactiÅ in their milk. A new inoculation of 12 ewes did not involved a new excretion nor an increase of SCC.
