Summary

Variations in milk somatic cell count (MSCC) and hematological values were studied in 30 ewes representing three genotypes during lactation. The lactation curves of ewes showed the characteristic decreasing patterns. After a peak in month I, the MSCC for the Pleven and Friesian ewes decreased till month III and IV, resp., then it tended to increase.

Merino ewes showed an increasing pattern for MSCC. For the monthly means (n=5) modest to definite positive correlations were found between MSCC and the blood variables, except white blood cell (WBC) count that correlated negatively with MSCC in the Friserian and Merino ewes.
