Sixteen fat-tailed male lambs A mo. old were allotted to four groups (A, B, C and D). Each lamb of groups A and B was intramuscularly injected with 25 mg of Deca-durabolin (growth promoter) once monthly for 4 mo. At the same time, each lamb of groups B and D received orally 50 mg/day of vitamin E throughout the experimental period. Group C was the control group. All lambs were fed a ration deficient of vitamin E. Seven weeks after the last injection of the growth promoter, all lambs were slaughtered. Live body weight, empty body weight and some carcass characteristics were determined. The data showed insignificant correlations between urinary or plasma creatinine, and the parameters of mutton production under study except between urinary creatinine excretion (UCE, gm/24 hours) and boneless carcass% (P<0.05), empty body weight (P<0.05) and thighs lean% (P<0.05). Moreover, plasma creatinine (PCC, mg%) was significantly (P<0.01) correlated with total body protein. Key words: creatinine excretion, meat production, fat-tailed sheep.
