Summary

This article denotes the climatic constraints in dry subtropics, i.e. rainfall, air temperature and insolation. The direct effects of these conditions on the physiological reactions and production performance of livestock are discussed. The indirect effect of the harsh climatic conditions on animals’ productivity is defined through the availability and type of the natural pasture vegetation and agricultural by-products. A conclusion on the prospects of animal production is outlined.
