Summary

Five mature Rahmani rams were used to evaluate the antipyrine-space (AP-space) as an indicator for in-vivo total body water (TBW) determination. Both of tritiated water-space (TOH-space) and AP-space were determined along with TBW by drying. There were no significant differences between TBW and each of TOH-space and AP-space. The results revealed 1.0852 as a factor of multiplying AP-space to calculate TBW. At the same time, 15 mature Rahmani rams were randomly allotted to three nutritional treatments (A, B and C). All rams were fed rations composed of 49% pelleted concentrates plus 51% hay (group A), or 51% Brewer’s grains (group B) and 25% pea pods with 25% orange waste and 1% urea (group C) for 3 mo after 2 mo adaptation period. The data showed that the feeding of agro-industrial by- products had significant effects on RBCs counting (P<0.01), Hb (P<0.01), Hct% (P<0.05) and cholesterol (P<0.05). Feeding of brewer’s grains instead of hay (group B) resulted in significantly (P<0.01) heavier body gain.
