Abstract

Two âin vivoâ digestibility trials were conducted in 1989 and 1990, on safflower crops (Carthamus tinctorlus L.), at early growing stage (30 cm in height), to determine their nutritive characteristics. The chemical composition was: dry matter 22.15% for safflower in 1989 vs 18.95% in 1990, crude protein 21.18% vs 20.95%, crude fibre 15.61% vs 16.41%. Palatability and digestibility for all nutrients were high. Nutritive characteristics were excellent (1.1630 Feed Units for Milk Production/kg DM safflower 89 vs 1.1131 Feed Units for Milk Production/kg DM safflower 90 and 1.1734 Feeds Units for Meat Production/kg DM safflower 89 vs 1.1097 Feed Units for Meat Production/kg DM safflower 90).
