Summary

Three Triticale varieties (Tejón, Balboa and Juanillo) were grazed by-sheep 0, 1 or 2 times during green stage. The DM yield during the first grazing (1000 kg DM/hectare) was similar for the three varieties. After regrowth, the DM yield (500 kg DM/hectare) revealed that the balboa cultivar was the least productive. Grain yield (around 1300 kg/hectare) did not change after the first grazing, but dropped to 500 kg/hectare after the second. Therefore, a single grazing is of significant value during critical periods of fodder scarcity. Thus, in livestock-raising this should be encouraged.
