Since the ethical matrix was conceived at the beginning of the 1990s it has been used by an array of organisations for many different purposes. Although the method has not been without it critics, it has been seen by some to be a flexible tool and during the last 10 years different variants have been developed and applied. The theory of the ethical matrix has been quite extensively explored, but the application of the method has not been mapped and reviewed to the same extent. This paper will focus on issues that arise when the ethical matrix is used as a tool for ethical engagement in a group setting. The paper aims to reflect on different application experiences in order to facilitate practical learning and identify research needs.
