Résumé

Les caractéristiques des zones céréalières méditerranéennes et leurs relations avec d’autres écosystèmes sont décrites.

On revoie les différentes races ovines laitières utilisées dans ces zones: Serra de Estrela, Manchega, Churra, Lacaune, Sarda, Chios, Karagouniko, Zakinthos et Awassi.

Les races exploitées pour la production d’agneaux sont aussi passées en revue; races à laine fine: Merinos Espagnol, Merinos Portuguais, Merinos D’Arles et Gentile du Puglia; races à laine demi-fine: Castellana, Rasa Aragonesa, Prealpes, Bergamasca, Beni Ahsen, Sardi et Arabes; races à queue grasse: Barbarine, Rahmani et Ausimi.

En conclusion, les races laitières doivent être améliorées génétiquement par sélection en race pure et les races pour la production d’agneaux doivent être utilisées en croisement avec des races à viande.
