Summary

This paper tries to analyse the differences in the production strategies which are applied in the Latxa flocks of the Basque Country. Data from 70 flocks included in the Milk Recording Programme during 1995 have been used. Taking into account the fact that flock milk production is influenced by lambing distribution, these were classified into one of the four types of lambing seasons previously defined. The productive characteristics of these groups were analysed and completed with the monitoring of a limited sample (14 flocks) during the same year. Differences relative to the production parameters (milk yield, fertility...) and to milking flock strategies were observed in these flocks. The driving forces, which have led to these different strategies, have not yet been analysed, but the influence of the geographic location on these flocks has been pointed out.
