This work was sponsored by industry organizations interested in a better understanding of the changing policy needs of the entire supply chain. Supply management has limited somewhat the growth of the Canadian poultry industry. Retail prices in Canada are perceived to be somewhat higher than in the United States; if supply management were to be terminated producers prices would drop more than retail prices. The industry is perceived to be stable and profitable, and retail prices of chicken are competitive if compared to beef and pork. Historical import quotas are considered somewhat unfair to retailers. Industry regulations are perceived as generally good for the industry, but the cost of operating the industry organization was too high. Supply management has promoted somewhat the adoption of new technologies, and has positive impact on rural communities, helping to preserve the family farm. Chicken is considered by consumers as high quality, safe and convenient, but its price is mildly uncompetitive compared to beef and pork. A number of practical implications conclude the paper.
