Abstract

Amos Yongâs graduate and postgraduate studies and early academic career were marked by excellence, intensity, and staggering speed. That period also led Yong to his initial and abiding commitment to theology of religions and interreligious dialogue, which may be the areas of Yongâs theology that his critics have most readily misunderstood. The misunderstanding is often funded by a failure to interpret Yongâs theology of religions within the wider context of his metaphysical, epistemological, and hermeneutical categories, Spirit-Word-Community. An evaluation within that context by a specialist in religious studies promotes an informed and critical assessment of Yongâs endeavor as a Christian theology of religions and how that qualifier influences Yongâs inquiry into religions other than Christianity.
