MalgrÃ© son titre, qui laisse croire que le cÅur de lâadaptation thÃ©Ã¢trale Discours de la mÃ©thode du ThÃ©Ã¢tre du Sous-marin jaune (2006) est le texte philosophique de 1637 de Descartes, cette piÃ¨ce de thÃ©Ã¢tre utilisant des marionnettes tÃ©moigne de la vie de lâhomme Descartes tout autant, voire plus, que du philosophe quâil Ã©tait. Non seulement cette adaptation invite Ã comprendre lâhomme derriÃ¨re le philosophe et offre une vÃ©ritable biographie intellectuelle de Descartes, mais elle se rÃ©vÃ¨le Ã©galement un outil puissant pour proposer une rÃ©flexion actuelle et critique sur son legs, en particulier le dualisme de lâesprit et du corps et la thÃ©orie des animaux-machines. Un retour sur le processus de crÃ©ation de ce spectacle signÃ© par le ThÃ©Ã¢tre du Sous-marin jaune et sa figure emblÃ©matique, Loup bleu (la voix du crÃ©ateur Antoine Laprise), complÃ¨te lâanalyse qui forme le cÅur de cet article.

Abstract

Despite its title, which suggests that the theatrical adaptation titled Discourse on the Method by the ThÃ©Ã¢tre du Sous-marin jaune (2006) is based on Descartesâ 1637 philosophical text, this puppet play mirrors the life of the man Descartes as much â more even â as that of the philosopher. Not only does this adaptation invite one to understand the man behind the philosopher while offering a veritable intellectual biography of Descartes, it also proves a powerful tool for proposing a contemporary and critical reflection on his legacy, particularly as regards mind-body dualism and the animal-machine theory. A review of the process of creation of this show signed by the ThÃ©Ã¢tre du Sous-marin jaune and its emblematic character, Blue Wolf (voice of creator Antoine Laprise), completes the analysis which forms the core of this article.
