Abstract

A harpacticoid copepod, Tigriopus japonicus Mori, is common in the rock pools along the sea coast of warm water regions. The minimum duration of its life cycle is twelve days. The number of individuals reared increased fairly rapidly with an increased amount of food, such as is used for shrimp. The copepods reached densities of about 19.8 inds/ml after 21 days. The optimal quantity of food for T. japonicus was 0.03 mg/ml/day.

Yellow-fin sea bream, Acanthopagrus latus (Houttuyn), fed with Tigriopus grew faster than those fed Artemia nauplii or a combination of Artemia and Tigriopus. Furthermore, fish larvae fed Tigriopus were more active swimmers and showed their characteristic colouration better.
