The objective of this work was to compost sewage sludge and urban tree pruning residues once they present organic matter and occupy a large volume in landfills. The composting was carried out in the laboratory under different treatments in the presence of hydrated lime (50% w/w) and an inoculum. Temperature, pH, moisture, helminth eggs and carbon and nitrogen concentrations were determined. The temperature and the moisture of the environment reached average values of 30 °C and 95%, respectively. In composting under liming condition, the temperature reached a maximum of 40 °C, the moisture ranged from 55 to 60%, the pH remained in the alkaline range and the helminth eggs were not detected. The final product showed the carbon:nitrogen in the range of 12:1-16:1 after 60 days of composting. The humus from sewage sludge and tree pruning in the presence of lime at 50% w/w is a product of agronomic value that can be used as organic fertilizer for reforestation and rehabilitation of degraded areas.
