The aim of this study was to evaluate the response of an acid-producing strain of Aspergillus niger to pH- and salt-stressed conditions. All experiments were carried out in liquid submerged and solid-state fermentation processes. The filamentous fungus showed ability to solubilize Araxa rock phosphate at all tested abiotic stress factors. However, the P-solubilization rate was decreased due to decrease in organic acid production combined, in some cases, with higher biomass growth. Solid-state fermentation experiments were less affected by the stress conditions compared to submerged liquid processes. The results reported here can be used as a base for further studies with other abiotic stress factors alone or in various combinations in fermentation and soil-plant systems.
