Comparative study was conducted with Rhodotorula glutinis UCP/WFCC 1555 and this strain acclimatized up to 15% of diesel oil. The objective of this work was evaluate the influence of acclimatization of this strain on its production of biosurfactant in medium optimized through planning of CCD 2², as its potential in degradation of fuels. The occurrence of production of biosurfactant was determined by measuring the surface and interfacial tensions. On the other hand, the potential of R. glutinis to biodegrade gasoline and biodiesel (extracted from sunflower and cotton seeds) was evaluated by redox indicator 2,6-dichlorophenolindophenol and by spectrophotometry (610 nm). The wild strain reduced the surface tension to 25.3 mN/m and interfacial tension to 0.8 mN/m in optimized medium consisting of glycerin 6% (v/v) and corn steep liquor 0.6% (v/v). The acclimatization of R. glutinis in 15% diesel oil did not affect the value of the surface and interfacial tension. The strain acclimatized with 12% diesel oil degraded 99% and 80%, of biodiesel from cotton and sunflower seeds, respectively, whereas the strain acclimatized with 15% diesel oil degraded gasoline in 45.46%.
