Two strains of Lactobacillus genera and two strains of Bifidobacterium were isolated from one and three month aged healthy calves faeces. Some physiological and biochemical features of new strains as well as their industrial valuable properties such as acidity, antagonistic activity and antibiotic susceptibility were studied. All isolated probiotic strains had a high growth temperature limit. Lactobacillus strains had a high antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter cloacae. At the same time Bifidobacterium strains had higher antibiotic resistance and grew at presence of the most used antibiotics. All isolated strains retained their properties after lyophilization during one year storage period at 7 °C.
