Nanotechnology is enabling technology that deals with nano-meter sized objects. The unique properties of nanomaterials make these materials superior and indispensable in many areas of human activity. Research concerning the impact of nanomaterials on biological systems enabled new development in the field of nanobiotechnology. An improved understanding of materials, their mode of action on the living cells will lead to new sensing, diagnostic and treatment capabilities such as targeted drug delivery, gene therapy and disease detection. Till now nanomaterials are reported to be an efficient antimicrobial agent against virus, bacteria or fungus. Recent findings, however, have challenged this concept of antimicrobial activity of nanoparticles. The results clearly demonstrated the growth-promoting role of the nanoparticles on microbes and thus present observation can be useful in rapid detection of pathogens like Neisseria meningitidis, Helicobacter pylori, Streptococcus pyogenes and many other microbes especially slow growing or fastidious microbes.
