In this paper the implementation and utilization of two different ISOagriNET conforming hardware devices to link up sensors within a farm network are described and evaluated. The first one uses the TINI microcontroller by Maxim, which is a low-cost product for public consumers. The second hardware basis is a product for commercial consumers called ILC 150 by Phoenix Contact. Both differ for example in acquisition costs, hard- and software layout, development process and reliability. Developing a reliable and robust solution for ISOagriNET compliant data acquisition is very complex. Limited computing power and memory of the used hardware require experienced software developer, whereas the necessary flexibility in terms of sensor connectivity requires knowledge about electrical engineering. As ISOagriNET conforming prototypes the developed solutions are an important contribution for testing this new standard and they demonstrate the possibilities of efficient data collection. The comparison of the developed solutions demonstrates appropriate areas of application, their advantages and disadvantages.
