Modern udder health programmes on dairy herds need to integrate different expert functions and at the same time involve the manager and the staff in order to achieve good results. A programme should include several investigatory and advisory visits, analysis of gathered data, set goals and targets, evaluate success and failures and give feedback to farmers and staff, as well as include educational elements. In our experience veterinary work should focus on gathering and analysis of data to be able identify risk factors. Advice should then aim at, in dialog with the staff, prioritize among and stepwise eliminate these risk factors. Another necessary element in any advisory program is that is increases profitability for the farmer.
