Abstract

The implementation of the Civil Code has already brought far-reaching impacts on many sectors of Chinese society, including commercial practices, governmental administration, dispute resolution, as well as academic research. The Civil Code is not only a great legislative achievement, but also a hallmark of the progress in the academic development of Chinese civil law. The chapter highlights the innovations brought by the Code by focusing on fundamental principles and analyzing the choices made by the legislator.
