Abstract

This book chapter explores how the multiple positions as a transnational teacher educator and a mother interact with each other through the analysis of the firsthand experiences of the author raising her child and of her teaching practices in teacher education. Drawing on the methodology of self-study in teacher education practices, this chapter unfolds the counter-storytelling (Solórzano & Yosso, 2002) on language use and assessment process related to ELLs in a school system that an immigrant mother with an emergent bilingual child experienced. While introducing the intersectional voice of an immigrant mother with professional knowledge in teacher education, which has rarely appeared in the existing literature, this chapter also highlights how the dilemmas, tensions, and vulnerabilities from the multiple positions strengthen her pedagogical practices in teacher education.
