Abstract

This chapter focuses on the experience of a racialized professor teaching a required undergraduate course on multiculturalism in the US Midwest. The author focused on how her positionality was responded to, how her choice of curriculum for her course was received (the curriculum development), her beliefs around social justice and communal responsibility towards her students (her ethics and sense of responsibility). The methodology used to analyze the teaching-based experiences is self-study methodology. She engaged with reflections she kept on her daily teaching, syllabus changes, as well as correspondence with her critical friend, Julian Kitchen.
