Abstract

The subject of the chapter is a radical criticism of the democratic state in anarchist political thought. The research was carried out on the basis of the interpretative theory. Based on the qualitative research, including content analysis of documents and publications of the anarchist movement, the author defined the basic assumptions of anarchist thought and the anarchist movement, interpreted the concepts of âstateâ and âdemocracyâ in the meaning given to them by anarchists, described and critically analyzed the arguments of anarchists used against state democracy, analyzed these arguments divided into two types of criticism: substantial and accidental. The study found that anarchist criticism of the democratic state and general elections was intensified during the COVID-19 pandemic and became a pretext for exposing the flaws of the state, ruling institutions, and ruling elites. However, the criticism applied by anarchists to the democratic state had important functions for democracy itself. These were: informing, sensitizing societies to the problems of the modern world, warning of their consequences, reforming.
