This article firstly provides an overview of the legal and regulatory framework for pig husbandry and pork supply, so as to outline the current legal instruments to deal with the food related challenges. However, while the financial benefits of increased eco-efficiency have been appreciated by certain local governments, the enforcement at local place are secondly provided to show the competing aims as well as different trends in the regulation of pig husbandry and pork safety. Finally, better regulation is suggested to improve the regulation in pig sector, in particular by taking into account the sustainability and flexibility.
