Abstract

Climate-related disasters pose a significant threat to Southeast Asia, particularly to vulnerable children. Various organizations have implemented programs and initiatives to prepare children for disasters, including international and national organizations, school-based programs, and innovative approaches. This paper reviews the literature and analyzes documents and reports to provide an overview of these programs and initiatives. The paper highlights the challenges and gaps in current programs, such as limited resources, lack of integration into national education systems, and cultural and linguistic barriers. Despite these challenges, the paper finds that these programs have been effective in improving childrenâs preparedness and response capacity. The paper concludes by emphasizing the need for continued investment in disaster preparedness programs for children in Southeast Asia and calls for more attention to addressing the root causes of vulnerability through intersectional approaches involving international and local NGOâs and government agencies.
