Abstract

The degradation of natural resources and the environment due to climate change is a global issue. Various disasters, such as floods, landslides, and droughts, are occurring everywhere, affecting human life. The impact of climate change is experienced differently by men and women due to the imbalance in gender relations. Using systematic reviews and field surveys, this study aims to explore the discourse of women’s experiences through three research objectives: to explore the impact of climate change on Indonesian women; the impact of climate change on Women-Headed Households (WHH s) in Gunung Butak Hamlet, Tepus District, Gunungkidul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta Province, Java, Indonesia; and to analyze the importance of women’s roles in dealing with climate change. The study’s findings indicate that women are among the most vulnerable groups to climate change due to interrelated cultural and environmental factors. Locally, WHH s are facing a decline in crop yields as their primary source of income, and difficulties in meeting daily water needs. Gunung Butak Hamlet is one of the hamlets most vulnerable to drought. Therefore, women have the potential and a crucial strategic role as agents of change in anticipating climate change.
