Abstract

In this critical reflection, Maclennan engages with white racial identity theory, specifically Janet Helms’ White Racial Identity Development (WRID) model, to discuss her ongoing personal journey towards a positive white racial identity. This is largely documented through her engagement with Me and White Supremacy: How to Recognise Your Privilege, Combat Racism and Change the World, by Layla F. Saad, which involves reading and reflective journaling over 28 days. In journaling she first confronts her complicity in white supremacy and interrogated her individual racism. Employing Critical Whiteness Studies (CWS), here she examines her journal entries over the four-week program to bring light to her racial identity development, both past, present, and going forwards.
