Abstract

One of the most characteristic features of the 2020 presidential election campaign in the Republic of Poland was the emergence of a new type of political communication actor, i.e., medical experts. One can even speak of an intensified presence of physicians and virologists in Polish media and public space from spring 2020. This chapter contains an analysis of the results of research, the purpose of which was to show whether, and if so, how, the medical experts present in the media in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic influenced the content of the political messages of the main candidates for the presidency of the Republic of Poland during the 2020 elections. The materials published on the official channels on Facebook and Twitter of the two main candidates for the office of the President of the Republic of Poland, as well as media statements of selected medical experts, were analyzed.
