The 50th anniversary of the UN brought forward issues like the enlargement of the Security Council, peacekeeping, the involvement of the UN in what used to be called "domestic situations" (i.e. in cases of massive violation of human rights), the role of ECOSOC, and the need for new supra-national sources of finance for certain UN activities. The conclusions of the article point to the need to take a fresh look at several questions, including the entire system of specialized agencies and organs.
