Summit diplomacy increasingly is a feature of modern international negotiations. Heads of Government like the feeling that they themselves take decisions, even though these have – in most cases – been carefully prepared by other ministers and/or by "ordinary" bureaucrats. The present short article endeavours to summarize the main features of summit diplomacy as practised at the Group of Seven heads of government meetings and at similar meetings of the government leaders of the European Union.
