The Madrid Peace Conference (30 October - 1 November 1991, since 1993 to some extent replaced by the Oslo arrangements) initiated a new phase of efforts to bring peace to the Middle East. This article analyzes the mechanics of the conference, including the role of the main actors, such as the United States, the Soviet Union and the European Community.
