Les animaux fourmillent dans Le Roi des aulnesâ: des espÃ¨ces gÃ©nÃ©riques comme pigeons, cerfs, sangliers et mÃªme aurochs. Mais certains spÃ©cimens se singularisent par le caractÃ¨re lÃ©gendaire qui leur est confÃ©rÃ© par lâauteur. Ainsi la multiple valeur significative attribuÃ©e au cheval de Tiffauges appelÃ© par lui Barbe-Bleue, Â«âanimal phorique par excellenceâÂ», prÃ©figurÃ© par le mythique PÃ©gase, et la place importante consacrÃ©e Ã lâÃ©lan connu sous le nom de Unhold (= ogre), domestiquÃ© par Tiffauges, font entrevoir que ce cortÃ¨ge dâanimaux nâest pas gratuit et mÃ©rite une approche particuliÃ¨reâ: celle de leur inscription dans la mythographie tourniÃ©rienne mise en Åuvre dans le roman.

Le Roi des aulnes is swarming with animalsâ: generic species like pigeons, deer, wild boars, and even aurochs roam its pages. But some specimens stand out because of the legendary character attributed to them by the author. Numerous significant meanings are thus ascribed to the horse owned by the main character Tiffauges. The horse, named Barbe-Bleue, is a âphoric animal par excellenceâ, prefigured by the mythical Pegasus. Furthermore, importance is given to the elk known as Unhold (= ogre), domesticated by Tiffauges. These two cases suggest that this procession of animals is not void of meaning and deserves to be analysed in the context of the mythography implemented by Tournier in the novel.
