The influence of the etchings made by Marcus Gheeraerts for The Truthful Fables of the Animals (Bruges, 1567) is not only obvious in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century drawings, engravings and paintings, but also in tapestries manufactured by several at that time internationally renowned weaving workshops. We brought together some twenty tapestries made by or related to the Brussels weaver Jan Raes II, all of them based on designs going back to the Gheeraerts illustrations; the way in which these designs were used also provides us with new information on Jan Raes and his workshop. At the end of this contribution we add a list of all Gheeraerts illustrations identified on the tapestries.

Lâinfluence des eaux-fortes rÃ©alisÃ©es par Marcus Gheeraerts pour Les Fables VÃ©ridiques des Animaux (Bruges, 1567) est non seulement Ã©vidente dans les dessins, gravures et peintures des seiziÃ¨me et dix-septiÃ¨me siÃ¨cles, mais aussi dans les tapisseries fabriquÃ©es par plusieurs ateliers de tissage contemporains de renommÃ©e internationale. Nous avons rÃ©uni une vingtaine de tapisseries rÃ©alisÃ©es par ou liÃ©es au tisserand bruxellois Jan Raes II, toutes basÃ©es sur des dessins qui remontent aux illustrations de Gheeraerts. La faÃ§on dont ces dessins ont Ã©tÃ© utilisÃ©s nous fournit Ã©galement de nouvelles informations sur Jan Raes et son atelier. Ã la fin de cette contribution, nous ajoutons une liste de toutes les illustrations de Gheeraerts identifiÃ©es sur les tapisseries.
