DÃ¨s son jeune Ã¢ge, BÃ¨ze sâest occupÃ© Ã faire des poÃ¨mes. Avant de se rÃ©fugier Ã GenÃ¨ve (1548), son recueil des Juvenilia a Ã©tÃ© publiÃ© Ã Paris par Josse Badius. Ce recueil fut suivi par de multiples Ã©ditions de ses Poemata oÃ¹ lâon trouve un large nombre de poÃ©sies ayant un animal comme sujet. Il est indÃ©niable que lâinfluence de Catulle et de Martial a jouÃ© un rÃ´le important dans la crÃ©ation de plusieurs de ces poÃ¨mes, surtout de ceux qui se concentrent autour des oiseaux ou des chiens. Quant aux Emblemata insÃ©rÃ©s dans le recueil des Icones (1581)â: on y trouve au moins une dizaine qui se concentre non seulement autour de bÃªtes rÃ©elles, mais encore autour dâanimaux allÃ©goriques.

Beza has been occupied in writing poetry ever since his youth. Before his flight to Geneva (1548), his collection of poems, the Juvenilia, was published in Paris by Josse Badius. This collection was followed by multiple editions of his Poemata that include a large number of poems having animals as their subject. Without any doubt, the influence of Catullus and Martial has been an important factor in the creation of these poems, especially for those that focus on birds and dogs. Concerning the Emblemata bound together with the collection of the Icones (1581), they contain at least ten poems that treat not only real animals, but also allegorical ones.
