Abstract

Most countries of the Caucasus-Central Asia region (with the exception of Turkmenistan) have ratified the 1958 New York Convention. The UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration has inspired most national Arbitration Acts in the region, but there are significant differences, e.g. as to the arbitrability of disputes. Several arbitration acts apply both to international and domestic arbitration, and sometimes include provisions on the conduct of the arbitral proceeding not foreseen in the Model Law. In addition, procedural codes may contain additional provisions. In all countries of the region there is a tradition of institutional arbitration linked with Chambers of Commerce.
