Abstract

All countries in the Caucasus-Central Asia region except Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan have adopted the CISG. As to conflict of laws, all countries of the region have ratified the 1993 CIS Minsk Convention, some also the 2002 Kishinev Convention or bilateral treaties. All these treaties are largely silent as to international sales. This leaves significant room for applying autonomous rules, which are usually contained in the Civil Codes, in Azerbaijan and Georgia in separate PIL Acts. Turkmenistan has no general legislation on PIL. Freedom of choice of law is generally accepted, but most other aspects of international sales are regulated quite differently, with remarkable specific rules in some countries.
