Abstract

Provisions on sales contracts in the countries of the Caucasus and Central Asia are, basically, contained in the Civil Codes, but additional provisions are sometimes contained in special legislation such as Land Codes or consumer protection legislation. The provisions in the Civil Codes are mostly based on the very detailed regulation of the CIS Model Civil Code, but have been modified to different degrees. The sales laws of Georgia and Turkmenistan follow the shorter German model. Significant differences exist as to the object of sales contracts, formal validity, retention of title agreements and the effects of factual and legal defects of sold goods.
