Abstract

The chapter is devoted to the restrictions provided for in the EU’s economic and financial sanctions regimes, which have been imposed in different contexts, and explains details of the different types of sanctions imposed by the EU. The author shows that legal protection against economic and financial sanctions has seen a remarkable development over the past years resulting in a considerable case-load. The practice of the EU Courts shows that after going through several phases of development, the legal framework for challenging economic and financial sanctions has now become clearer, but overall, but rather rarely leads to success for claimants.
